Bhagwant Mann-led government’s latest bid to suppress gun culture in Punjab, cancels over 800 licenses

The new stance by the Punjab Government comes after the recent killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala which left thousands in shock.

Bhagwant Mann led-government has taken a firm stand on the gun culture in Punjab as the Punjab government has cancelled 813 licenses in the state. As per the reports, the AAP government in Punjab has also reiterated the rules to be followed for carrying arms.

As per the reports, the crackdown by the state government in Punjab includes licenses from 87 from Ludhiana Rural, 48 licenses from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, 10 from Gurdaspur, 84 from Faridkot, 199 from Pathankot, 47 from Hoshiapur, 6 from Kapurthala, 235 from SAS Kasba, and 16 from Sangrur.

Arms licenses of 27 people of Amritsar Commissionerate and 11 of Jalandhar Commissionerate have also been cancelled. The reports said that other districts in the state have also come under the radar in the crackdown.

The new stance by the Punjab Government comes after the recent killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala which left thousands in shock.

A total of 2,000 arms licenses have been cancelled so far by the AAP government in Punjab. The AAP government has also raised a caveat that random checking will also be carried out by the state administration.

The rules relayed by the Bhagwant Mann government highlighted that laws have to be followed to keep guns. As per the reports, the Punjab government said has directed the concerns that weapons won’t be carried or displayed in public functions, religious places, marriage ceremonies, or any other form of event in the state.

So far, 3,73,053 arms licenses have been issued in Punjab, and the new stance by the Punjab government comes as an aim to quell the number of arm license bearers. The Aam Aadmi Party also relayed that the new stance by the AAP government in Punjab is an effort to stop the prevailing glorification of gun culture in the state.

Punjabi Singer Sidhu Moosewala was also accused of promoting gun culture with his post on his social media. The gun culture displayed by the Singer sparked many debates, however, his murder also raised concerns about the ramifications of promoting gun culture.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and son of RJD supremo Lalu Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, has come out on Twitter to refute the claims made by Enforcement Directorate. As per the reports, the ED in a statement said that the land allegedly acquired by former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav in the land for jobs case has a current market value of Rs 200 crore.

The statement issued by the probe agency said that the investigation conducted so far has uncovered that several pieces of land at prominent locations in Patna and other areas were illegally acquired by the family of Lalu Prasad Yadav in exchange for jobs in railways.

The statement also estimated the current market value of the land acquired by Lalu Prasad and their family to be more than 200 crores. As per the reports, the ED had also claimed that a big chunk of money was also sent to Tejashwi Yadav’s account.

Following the claim made by the probe agency in their statement, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav took to Twitter to dismiss the allegations. Yadav, in his tweet, wrote that a list of seizure list should be made public instead of spreading rumors or planting news sourced by the BJP. He further claimed that if the list of seizures was made public, many political leaders will lose their credibility.

ED summons KCR’s daughter K Kavita again in the Delhi Liquor scam policy case

Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader and the daughter of Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao, K Kavita has been summoned again by Enforcement Directorate on March 16. The BRS leader was questioned on Saturday in the case of the Delhi liquor scam.

As per the reports, Kavita was questioned for over 9 hours and subsequently, after questioning, she left for Hyderabad.

In the Delhi Liquor Policy scam, former Deputy CM of Delhi and AAP leader Manish Sisodia had been arrested by the CBI last week. Following Sisodia’s arrest by the probe agency, 8 Opposition parties also wrote to the Prime Minister of India and bashed the Centre for using Central agencies for political motives.

As per the reports, Kavita was questioned in the case by the probe agency that claimed that she had a role in the alleged south group for whom the now-retracted liquor policy was altered. The ED has alleged that Delhi Government had altered the liquor policy to favor the south group.

As per the reports, the probe agency had also seized the BRS leader’s phones during the questioning. It was also reported that when Kavita left for the ED office in the morning, BRS supporters assembled and sloganeered. A gathering of party leaders, MPs, and MLAs was also seen at KCR’s residence in Delhi.

Prior to her being questioned by the probe agency, K Kavita also talked to the media and lambasted the BJP government by saying that in the country there’s no difference between Enforcement Directorate summons and Modi’s summons, implying that the ED working for the BJP. She further highlighted and alleged that the opposition parties in election-bound states are usually harassed by the ED. The BRS leader further questioned what can the opposition do.

As per the case in the Liquor policy scam, the AAP has rejected the allegations of taking kickbacks. However, the BJP has come forward to slam the Delhi government by questioning the reason behind retracting the liquor policy.

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar while addressing an event on ayurveda in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut responded to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s claim on the mike issue. The Vice President in his address thwarted claims by the Congress leader and termed Gandhi’s claims to be untrue.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar in his statement said that a narrative is set by some people about microphones being switched off in the parliament of the world’s largest democracy. He further said that nothing can be more untrue than this.

Dhankar, in his address, also requested the Patanjali Managing director Balakrishna to make a medicine that can restore the dignity of the parliament. The Vice President also said that the conduct in parliament and legislative assemblies need to be exemplary. He further said and added that no hindrances should be caused there.

The statements by the Vice President of India comes as a rebuttal to the claims made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on the Centre deliberately turning off the microphones. The Congress leader in his talk held in London talked about his experience as a politician in India and claimed that the microphones in the house are functioning properly, however, the voice of the Opposition can’t be reached as the Centre doesn’t turn them on.

The row between the Vice President and Rahul Gandhi on the microphone issue continued for the second day. Dhankar also targeted Rahul Gandhi for portraying India’s image in a bad light on foreign soil.

Most recently many BJP leaders questioned Rahul Gandhi’s statement in London and dubbed it to be portraying the nation in a bad light. However, Congress leaders came out to defend Gandhi over his remarks about India’s democracy being in danger under the BJP rule.

Rahul Gandhi was on a 10-day visit to London where he delivered a lecture in the Cambridge university, as well as, spoke to the Indian Journalist Association, according to reports.
