Vadodara: Inmates of Baroda central jail will hold an exhibition on Monday of paintings and sketches made by them on Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III to mark the visionary ruler’s 160th birth anniversary.
The event is conceptualized by Art Original – a group of fine arts enthusiasts in the city.
The jail was established in the year 1881 by the Sayajirao which is still in use. Eleven inmates who had an artistic inclination were selected and trained by seven students of MSU’s faculty of fine arts for the exhibition.
These selected inmates were guided in their artworks by 12 fine arts students from Parul University as well. They were divided in three groups including students who made the artworks together.
The artworks will now be exhibited at the open-air theatre of the jail.
“The inmates have several talents in them. When representatives of Art Original came for some other event in the prison, they saw some paintings done by the inmates and the idea of doing something like this was conceptualised,” said jail welfare officer M A Rathod.
On Friday, a live talk show was also conducted on the central jail radio in which was addressed by Maharaja Fatehsinh Museum curator Manda Hingurao.
