Now, Thane civic chief to conduct an independent inquiry into fire incident
Thane: The Thane municipal commissioner and collector are likely to conduct independent investigations in the Friday fire incident at Shil that took over 30 hours of intense fire fighting to douse the flames which left one person dead and another injured, officials informed.
Thane collector Ashok Shingare told TOI the incident is likely to be investigated to find the cause. “We are presently focusing on resolving the issue and will soon call a joint meeting of stakeholders to discuss the issue whether it was an accident or negligence,” said Shingare.
Municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar said a safety compliance review will be taken to ensure there is no recurrence of this magnitude especially when such lines pass through dense residential areas. “Our teams assisted to ensure minimal inconvenience to residents and traffic. We will probe the incident,” he said.
Meanwhile, it took over 30 hours of combined efforts by teams from the Thane regional disaster management cell, fire brigade, police to douse the blaze by Saturday evening. Avinash Sawant, chief at the regional disaster management cell said as many as 10 agencies including the GAIL, BPCL, Thane disaster relief force, torrent power company, Thane police were working at the spot till late evening to restore normalcy.
Teams from the oil and power supply company were also present at the spot for restoration work of their respective lines that suffered extensive damage, informed officials from the Thane corporation. Meanwhile, the incident led to massive inconvenience for motorists and local residents.
