KOLKATA: The Bengal STF has arrested four Bangladeshi nationals on Saturday morning from Sector V in Salt Lake for allegedly staying in India using fake documents and also acting as agents who settled other Bangladeshi nationals across India by preparing similar fake documents in their name. The police are probing their possible links with underground groups too.
According to senior STF officers, the accused have been identified as Sk Abdullah (24) of Gopalganj and Dhaka, Imam Hussain (26) of Noakhali, Abdur Sobur (24) of Sirajganj in Rajshahi and Md Khairul Islam(27) of Khulna.
“They were arrested from Salt Lake Sector V following a tip-off. They have been charged with illegally infiltrating into Indian territory and then acquiring forged Indian documents. They had allegedly been helping other Bangladeshi nationals for illegal immigration into India and in procuring fake Indian documents. They were also helping these men relocate to various parts of India for clandestine purposes, mostly in south India,” said a senior officer.
A specific case has been registered with the Electronic Complex police station in this regard, said STF officers. They will be produced before Bidhannagar court with a prayer for police remand. Some of their aides are under the scanner.
The police said they are raiding a few places. “The accused have been in India for some time. We are trying to check how many more fake documents have they provided to help other Bangladeshi nationals settle in India,” the officer said.
