Ludhiana: Division number 2 police booked four men for allegedly kidnapping a 20- year-old woman and threatening her. The girl was rescued from Jammu railway station. When she reached home, she jumped off the rooftop of her house in a bid to commit suicide. She has been referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh because of her critical condition.
An FIR has been lodged against the accused, identified as Nissar, Gulfaan, Sartaj and Gufaan – all residents of Ludhiana, on the complaint of Hina, sister of the victim, Rukhsana, a resident of Jankpuri.
Hina said that on March 5, when she was at work, she received a call from Rukhsana who said that she was going to their brother’s house in division number 2 area. However, on March 6, she said she came to know that Rukhsana did not reach their brother’s house and she did not come home either. She said that her friends and family searched for her but could not find her.
On the night of March 6, Hina said Rukhsana called from an unknown number and said she was at Jammu railway station. She asked Hina to pick her up from there. They went to Jammu the next day and brought Rukhsana back home. Hina said that Rukhsana was depressed and initially she did not talk about her experience. On insisting, Rukhsana said that she hired an auto to go to her brother’s house. She said she sat in the auto and minutes later, the accused also sat in it. She said they made her sniff something which made her unconscious.
Hina alleged, “Rukhsana did not know where the accused took her. When she gained some consciousness, she was at Jammu railway station and the accused were not around her. She took the help of a policeman and contacted the family. Rukhsana was so depressed that she tried to commit suicide by jumping off the roof of the house on Friday. She was rushed to hospital from where she has been referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh as her condition is not improving.”
Janakpuri police post in-charge, ASI Balour Singh said that during the initial probe, police found that Rukhsana was friends with Mohammad Gulfaan who works for a hairdresser, Sartaj.
There was talk of marriage but Gulfaan refused to marry her. As Rukhsana is not in a condition to give statements, police have lodged an FIR on the basis of statements recorded by her sister Hina under sections 365 (kidnapping or abduction with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 34 (Act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 506 (Criminal intimidation) and 120-B (Criminal conspiracy) of IPC. Further probe is on.
