HYDERABAD: A sloth bear attacked two farmers and injured them severely in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district. They were out in the fields when the wild animal attacked them. The scared farmers ran to safety while the bear went into the forest area. In the first incident on March 10 evening, farmer Ramagoni Avidhar Goud was walking from his agricultural fields in Lonavelli village towards Karjpalli village when he came face to face with the bear. Goud had little time to react as the bear pounced on him and attacked him. Goud raised a hue and cry and some villagers scared the bear to go away. Goud was attacked at around 5.20 pm. The bear struck again within one hour. This stime, it attacked Choudary Bonu who was working in his maize fields in Tonkini village, which is 4 km away from Lonavelli where the first incident took place. The bear pounced on Bonu, who managed to push it away and run. Some farmers, who were working in the fields, rushed to Bonu’s help and took him to the PHC. He was later taken to government hospital at Sirpur(T). They said the bear has headed towards Laxmipur Nilagiri plantation. Forest officials have asked the villagers to be on alert.
