Influenza Subtype H3N2 : Avoid Self-Medication Says Health Expert

New Delhi, 12 March : Doctors in Lucknow are urging people to avoid self-medication following the deaths of two individuals in India due to the influenza A subtype H3N2 virus, one in Karnataka and one in Haryana.
Although the virus is not new, people are experiencing longer spells of cough, which is a cause for concern.
Experts recommend consulting a doctor instead of purchasing medication over-the-counter because this flu variant is different.
Precautions to take include keeping the body’s immunity adequate and avoiding close contact with unknown individuals, particularly in crowded places. Elderly individuals and children are most vulnerable and are advised to avoid cold weather conditions during the morning and late evening.
Amidst the increasing number of influenza cases in the country, more patients are reporting pneumonia-like conditions and ear fullness.
The fullness of the ear is an additional symptom noticed in this episode of flu, with many patients at day five or six of the illness starting to complain of ear fullness or feeling like something is blocked inside the ear.
According to Mayo Clinic, ear fullness occurs when the eustachian tubes, which run between the middle ear and the back of the nose, become blocked.
