Ludhiana police books farmer for allegedly growing poppy plants in his field
Cops said that as per information, cuts were made in the poppy plants and in few days, the accused is “preparing” to extract opium from flowers. They added that as per the informer, If the raid is done in time, the accused can be caught along with the plants.
LUDHIANA: Ludhiana rural police has booked a farmer for allegedly growing poppy plants in his field in Jagraon area. The accused was identified as Nachhatar Sinngh of Bodalwala village.
Police officials said that ASI Gurnam Singh along with other police officials was present at Ramgarh Bhullar village in connection with checking of suspicious persons. They added that an informer provided tip off to the police team that the accused does farming of poppy plant and has planted such plants to derive opium from those in his field at Bodalwala village.
Cops said that as per information, cuts were made in the poppy plants and in few days, the accused is “preparing” to extract opium from flowers. They added that as per the informer, If the raid is done in time, the accused can be caught along with the plants.
Police officials said that on finding information credible and right, ASI Gurnam Singh raided the fields along with the police officials and recovered 62 plants (5 kilograms 175 grams) from there.
Police has booked the accused under sections of NDPS act.
