Entrance test to 16 schools of eminence in city on March 19
Ludhiana: In a major change for the government schools selected under the School of Eminence (SOE) scheme, the students will now only be admitted to classes IX and XI through entrance test mode, while no new admissions would now be taken in these schools in Class VI.
The government senior secondary schools selected under SOE currently have classes VI to XII, but the government aims at limiting these schools to only classes IX to XII. With no new admissions into class VI this year, this class would be discontinued this year, and slowly classes VII and VIII would also be discontinued year by year as existing students get promoted to next classes.
The education department has directed the principals not to enrol new students in Class VI and to motivate parents to admit their kids at other government facilities nearby.
State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has directed the district education officers and school heads to inform all students in private and government schools regarding the change.
The entrance test for the same will be held on March 19, and registrations were open till March 10. A student can only register in the SOE school located nearby. There are total 117 SOEs in Punjab, of which 16 have been made in Ludhiana.
