On June 17, 2021, Sidhwan Bet police booked Gagandeep Singh, 31, under the NDPS Act. As per the prosecution, police apprehended the accused with 108 strips of intoxicant tablets containing 1,080 such tablets in a plastic bag tied to the handle of his motorcycle. Police arrested the accused and produced a chargesheet against him in court. During trial of the case, the accused pleaded false implication.
The court held that although counsel for the accused stated that no independent witness was joined in the present case, but it is clear that prosecution had examined six witnesses in the case and all the witnesses had given their statements in official capacity. It observed that counsel for the accused failed to prove how the witnesses examined by the prosecution were not trustworthy. tnn
