Farmers in Hapur distress as potato prices fall

Potato farmers in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh are suffering because a bumper crop has led to a crash in wholesale prices. In addition to abundant production, lack of demand, especially from Bengal and Bihar, has also led to a shortage of storage space. The farmers are demanding that the government set a minimum support price for potatoes and allow their export to provide some relief.
