Woman pours hot oil on boyfriend in Erode, held

Erode: A 27-year-old married woman poured hot oil on her boyfriend after she picked up a quarrel with him over his affair with another woman at Varnapuram in Bhavani here on Saturday. The man has been admitted to a private hospital with burn injuries.
The Bhavani police said B Meena Devi, of Varnapuram, was having an extra-marital affair with A Karthik, 27, of the same village, for more than two years. She is married to Karthik’s cousin.
A police officer said, “Meena and Karthik studied in the same college near Bhavani and were friends. She married Karthik’s cousin three years ago. The two, however, developed an affair more than two years ago.”
Meanwhile, he said, Karthik fell in love with another woman. “When Meena came to know about his affair, she started forcing him to marry her. However, Karthik refused to do so.”
On Saturday around 2.30pm, the officer said, Meena picked up a quarrel with Karthik at her house and asked him to marry her. “When Karthik refused, Meena poured hot oil on Karthik, who sustained 15% burn injuries.”
Karthik immediately rushed to a private hospital and told doctors that he was attacked with acid by his lover. After providing him first aid, doctors referred him to another private hospital in Erode town, where his condition is said to be stable.
When alerted, the Bhavani police held an inquiry with the Karthik and registered a case against Meena. “We have detained her for an inquiry. We have not arrested her yet, as the inquiry is on,” the officer said.
