
The Pune City police have arrested an ‘agent’ for allegedly threatening to kill an officer at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Alandi Road, officials said.
The police identified the accused as Nicky Francis Swaminathan (38), a resident of Phule Nagar on Alandi Road, and said he works as an ‘agent’ at the RTO.
As per a press release issued by the police, on Friday afternoon, Abhijit Gaikwad (35), a motor vehicle inspector at the RTO, was on duty when Swaminathan allegedly hurled documents at him. Gaikwad handles work related to the re-registration of old vehicles at the RTO. Swaminathan then allegedly asked Gaikwad to sign the papers and threatened to kill him if he did not. Swaminathan also allegedly threatened Gaikwad’s female colleague.
Based on a complaint filed by Gaikwad, a first information report (FIR) was registered at the Yerwada police station. The police booked the accused under sections 353 (causing disturbance in government work), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 452 (house trespass), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police Sub Inspector Swapnali Gaikwad of Yerwada police station is investigating the case.
