Ahmedabad: Sanand man clicks on link, loses Rs 1.5 lakh

AHMEDABAD: A 44-year-old man from Sanand was allegedly cheated out of Rs 1.5 lakh after he clicked a weblink sent by cybercrooks. Pradip Patel, a resident of Radheswapna Residency in Sanand, filed a complaint with Ahmedabad range cybercrime police on Friday, stating he received a call asking him to update his PAN number and link it with his bank account.
Patel works as a salesman with a private automobile firm in Sanand. On September 16, 2022, he was at a mall in Sanand when he got a message from an unknown number telling him to update his PAN card details and and link them to his bank account. The message also said that account would be blocked if he failed to do so.
When Patel clicked the weblink in the message, he received two OTPs (one-time password). As soon as he entered the passwords, Rs 1.51 lakh was debited from his account.
Patel said that he received a call from his bank and an officer told him that he had been cheated by cybercrooks.
He said that he again received a call from someone the same day, seeking his bank details to update the KYC, but this time he was more aware and did not provide the details, the FIR stated.
