Canada cost a non-resident Indian Rs 43 lakh. Deep Patel was duped by conmen who promised to convert his money into Canadian dollars. Karelibaug police have registered a case of cheating against three persons, including two residents of Canada.
According to the police, Patel got married in the city recently and received Rs 43 lakh as cash gift from his relatives and friends. He planned to buy a house in Canada and wanted the Indian currency to be converted into Canadian dollars.
Patel’s kin put up a post on FB and a woman identified as Arti Radadiya, along with another Ankit Sidpara, contacted Patel. They told him that their relative Ranchhod Mer in Surat would convert the money. Patel sent the money through angadia to Mer and Rs 42.7 lakh was then sent to the accused in Canada. After the duo got the money, they switched off their phones. tnn
