Jamshedpur: The Kolhan University has issued tenders for developing facial recognition based attendance system that will require hardware and software interface (mobile application).
"March 14 is the last date for applying for the tender. The agency will be selected based on the lowest bid," said KU spokesperson, P K Pani. Initially, the system will be rolled out for the university employees and postgraduate (PG) department staff, subsequently, it will be extended to all the constituent colleges. The system will update attendance on a daily basis. Besides, the software gives real-time information on attendance of the employees, Pani said. "Total project cost will be determined in the later stage of the contract finalisation process, but the university will fund the project from its internal resources," said Pani.
A teacher at the Graduate School College for Women, Rakesh Pandey, said, "Mobile network is a problem in the remote areas. Besides, many employees are not tech savvy, the university need to look into these before implementing the new attendance system."
"Employees who come to the college on public transport travelling 15-20 km can get late to work due to traffic. In the new system, even 10-minute delay in uploading the data is treated as absent," said a woman employee, requesting anonymity.
Notably, with 80,000 plus students under its belt, some of the constituent colleges of the university are situated in far-off places across all three districts of Seraikela-Kharsawan,
East and West Singhbhum.
