Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai, arrested in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise scam, has moved a city court accusing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of forging his statements in the matter.

The ED had claimed that he is a close aide of BRS MLC and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha and an alleged frontman of the liquor cartel – “South Group” – that paid kickbacks amounting to about Rs 100 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to gain a larger share of the market in the national capital under the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2020-21.

AAP MP Raghav Chadha said BJP’s goal is to make India an opposition-less country. “They want India to have one party, & one leader and they want to dump every politician in jail. They want India to turn into autocracy,” he said on central agencies’ action against the opposition.

“If it is an honest person, who is not involved in any law-defying act, they’ll clearly say so without ifs or buts. But K Kavitha is being questioned and she hasn’t said anything like that. They’ll play the victim card but won’t answer the public’s questions,” said BJP’s Gaurav Bhatia.

In a tweet in Hindi, Singh wrote, “I had a suggestion. If all the leaders of the opposition are “encountered”…At least Modi ji will be able to sleep peacefully for 8 hours…There will be neither opposition nor democracy. Only dictatorship will survive.”

The BRS MLC has been called by the agency so that she can be confronted with Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandran Pillai, an alleged frontman of the “south group” who was arrested by the ED earlier this week.

The agency will also record Kavitha’s statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

In response, Bandi Sanjay’s office said, “Some statements made by Bandi Sanjay about three days ago are being blown out of proportion. This is a common phrase used in Telugu language which means if someone does a crime, would you appreciate or punish”.

BRS MLC K Kavitha reached the ED office in Delhi earlier on Saturday and is being questioned in connection with the agency’s probe into the alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy case.

There was a heavy presence of Delhi Police and central paramilitary forces personnel for barricading the ED office even as the supporters of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader staged a protest on APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh hit out at the BJP over K Kavitha’s questioning by the ED in the liquor scam case. “PM Modi should not waste time and put all opposition leaders behind bars,” he said.
