MUMBAI: The city crime branch on Friday arrested the director of the Ahmednagar-based Bhagubai Bambare Agricultural and Science College, Akshay Bambare, for his suspected role in the HSC maths paper leak. Meanwhile, another police team has left for Ahmednagar to trace the owner of the college who is also under suspicion.
Police sources said that the crime branch had summoned Bambare for questioning on Friday after they found his involvement in the paper leak and placed him under arrest. Akshay is the sixth person to be arrested in the case.
On Tuesday, the police arrested the principal of the college, Bhausaheb Amrute (54), teachers Kiran Dighe (28) and Sachin Mahunur (23), administrator Archana Bambare (23) and driver Vaibhav Taste (29).
Police said all are close relatives. During interrogation, the accused told the police that they leaked the maths paper because they wanted to increase the college's pass percentage and score. The paper was leaked an hour prior to the exam and sold to certain parents for Rs 10,000, police said.
