RTO opens five counters in city to collect tax
Jaipur: To achieve revenue targets, regional transport office (RTO) Jaipur has opened five cash counters in the city to collect annual tax levied on commercial vehicles, said officials on Friday.
The RTO has so far collected 93% of the total target for the current financial year. The RTO has collected over Rs 1,117 crore of tax this year against a target of Rs 1,474 crore for the financial year 2022-23.
Virendra Singh, regional transport officer, Jaipur, said, “For the ease of truck drivers and other commercial vehicle drivers, we have set up five counters where they can submit tax easily as they find the online process difficult. Most of the times, commercial vehicle owners miss the deadline in online process and then have to pay hefty fines. The process is usually completely online, but only for the month of March the state government has allowed submission through offline process also.”
Officials said that counters have been set up at the RTO offices in Jhalana, Jagatpura, Transport Nagar and Gajsinghpura on Ajmer Road. Singh said that there are two types of taxes usually, one-time tax (OTT) which is submitted while purchasing a vehicle and non-OTT sources like yearly taxes, fee, fines from enforcement activity conducted on roads, traffic violations among others. Enforcement activity includes checking overloading on vehicles on roads, checking vehicles with no license plates or no reflectors..
