Guest worker arrested for growing ganja
Coimbatore: The Kovilpalayam police on Thursday arrested a guest worker for growing four ganja plants near his rented house at Serayampalayam.
The arrested person was identified as C Pintu Kewat, 33, a native of Lodipur in Bihar. He had been working in a private firm at Serayampalayam as a load man for the last 14 years.
Based on a tip-off, a police team led by sub-inspector Jeevanandam raided the area on Thursday night and found the plants, cultivated along with brinjal and tomato plants, at a vacant plot near Pintu's home. "He was planning to sell dried ganja leaves to guest workers. We removed the plants, weighing around 2kg," a police officer said.
Police have registered a case against Pintu under sections 8 (b), read with 20 (a) (i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. He was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison. TNN
