KOLKATA: The Enforcement Directorate on Friday evening arrested Trinamool Yuva Hooghly president and zilla parishad karmadhyaksha Santanu Bandyopadhyay after questioning him for seven hours at the CGO Complex in connection with the money-for-jobs case.
Bandyopadhyay, who had a stellar rise in the district TMC, came under the ED radar after Tapas Mandal - another accused in the SSC scam - took his name. Mandal claimed to have been introduced to Bandyopadhyay through Kuntal Ghosh in 2015 and met him a few times at a flat in New Town. Mandal claimed that Bandyopadhyay worked hand-in-glove with Ghosh and collected money from aspiring candidates. Ghosh has, however, denied having any knowledge about him.
The ED, on January 20, had conducted searches at Bandyopadhyay's Balagarh residence in Hooghly. According to ED sources, over 300 names of candidates were recovered from his residence. Some Aadhaar cards and other identification documents of these candidates were also recovered. ED officials had summoned him six times earlier.
