PATNA: Around 65% of work has been completed on the 8.86km long Mithapur-Mahuli elevated road project, which is targeted to be completed by March next year.
The elevated road from southwestern flank of Mithapur flyover to Ramgovind Singh Mahuli railway halt is expected to ease vehicular movement on the southern fringes of the city. It is being constructed with an estimated expenditure of Rs 668 crore.
The elevated road is being constructed by Afcons Infrastructure Limited under a contract awarded by Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL). The proposal of the ambitious project was passed by the state cabinet in February 2020.

"Altogether 885 of 1,764 spans have been laid under the elevated road project. Another 49 spans are ready to be laid as we are laying seven spans in a month. All spans will be laid by December and the project is targeted to be completed by March next year," a BSRDCL official told TOI on condition of anonymity.
He added a small bridge over the bypass at Sipara would also be constructed by December. "The progress in the project is, in fact, ahead of the schedule," he added.
The official said approval is awaited from railways for construction of a road over bridge (ROB) above Sipara railway-level crossing to decongest the vehicular movement. "The vehicular movement on this route gets regularly obstructed due to the railway level crossing," he said.
Two vehicular underpasses are also being constructed under the project - one near Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) and another between NH-30 and Sipara flyover. Once completed, the elevated road will improve connectivity on Patna-Gaya, Patna-Biharsharif, Biharsharif-Bakhtiyarpur and Bakhtiyarpur-Patna routes on NH-83, NH-82, NH-31 and NH-30.
The road meets NH-83 near Mahuli ROB with the starting point in Patna being on the south-west lane of Mithapur flyover. It will connect major areas, including Mithapur, Sipara, Etbarpur, Kurthaul, Parsa and Mahuli. The BSRDCL official said a proposal has been mooted to extend the elevated road up to Punpun in the second phase. "A formal proposal in this regard is yet to be approved," he added.
