Prayagraj: In a unique initiative, volunteers of Paryavaran sena, an NGO working for environment protection, are taking out ‘Harit Yatra’ from Pratapgarh (UP) to Gaya (Bihar) to spread the message of environment protection and appealing to plant more saplings. Claiming that our ancestors had planned millions of trees which are now giving fruits and flowers to us, volunteers on Friday appealed masses to follow the similar path so that our next generation could breath easy.
Head of Paryavaran Sena, Ajay Krantikari told TOI, “The Harit Yatra started at Poorekharagrai village in Mandhata block of Pratapgarh district by a group of 10 volunteers of the organisation on Friday and this yatra will reach Gaya in seven days. Volunteers will be interacting with people at villages, blocks and city while covering the yatra and appeal them for ‘Vraksha -Daan’ (donation of plants and saplings). The motive of the Harit Yatra and Vraksha daan was to create mass awareness to increase green cover and also to apprise people about
global warming. Tress of jamun ( Indian blackberry), gular (cluster fig) and guava will be planted on route from Pratapgarh and Gaya. Volunteers said that it’s a collective approach on the part of people to make efforts for environment protection and plant more and more saplings in their surroundings.
