Paan shop owner assaulted by liquor addict in Upleta succumbs
Rajkot: A 50-year-old paan shop owner, Chetan, who was assaulted by a liquor addict on March 2 in a village of Upleta taluka, succumbed to severe head injuries in Rajkot on Friday.
Based on a complaint filed by the father of the deceased, Velji, Bhayavadar police first booked the accused Jheel Bhalodiya but later added murder charges and arrested him after the victim’s death. Sources said that the incident happened in Moti Paneli village.
The victim's family told cops that Jheel was a liquor addict and that a few days before the assault, Chetan had reprimanded Jheel for his addiction and had slapped him.
The family suspects that Jheel harboured a bitter grudge over this and attacked Chetan. He inflicted blows on the victim’s head with a stick. Chetan was admitted to the Rajkot Civil Hospital after his condition deteriorated, where he died on Friday.
