CHENNAI: The Southern Railway will redevelop 15 railway stations in Chennai division as part of Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Tenders have been called for and a letter of acceptance has been awarded for 14 stations and the masterplan is being finalised.
The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of fiscal 2023-24.
The stations are Ambattur, Mambalam, Arakkonam Junction, Park, Chengalpet Junction, Perambur, Chennai Beach, St. Thomas Mount, Guduvancheri, Sullurpet, Guindy, Tiruttani, Gummidipoondi, Tiruvallur and Jolarpet
The stations will get passenger-friendly amenities like lifts and escalators, addition to improvement to second entry, toilets, better interiors, waiting halls, façade and improvements to traffic circulation, beautification of circulating area and provision of uniform signage, good quality durable furniture, entrance porches, high level platforms, shelter over platform and 12m wide central foot overbridge with ramps.
Funds to the tune of Rs 5 to 10 crores will be allocated for each station depending upon their importance, said a press release.
More stations will be included in the next phase of the project.
