Uproar in House over Naba murder
Bhubaneswar: The opposition on Friday created a ruckus in the state assembly over “disappointing” progress in the investigation into the murder of minister Naba Kisore Das forcing speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha to frequently adjourn the proceedings.
Moments after the house reconvened for question hour after an eight-day break, the BJP and Congress members jumped into the well and raised anti-government slogans highlighting that there was no substantive headway in the probe into Das’s murder and demanded chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s resignation.
The speaker first adjourned the proceeding till 11.30 am after his plea to return to their seats went unheeded. There was similar uproar during zero hour. The speaker adjourned the house till 4 pm. With the opposition in no mood to relent in the post-lunch session, the speaker called an all-party meeting to iron out the differences.
Ruling BJD MLA Shashibhusan Behera termed it unfortunate that the opposition disrupted the assembly by raising an issue which has already been discussed. “The house had already discussed the probe into Das’s murder before the break. There are many pressing issues of public interest. The opposition should raise them and wait for the investigation into the minister’s murder,” Behera said.
