‘Paid period leave’ demand for Raj women

Jaipur: The New Pension Scheme Employees’ Federation of Rajasthan (NPSEFR) has demanded that paid ‘period or menstrual leave’ be granted to women employees on a similar pattern as Bihar government. Spain recently became the first European nation to pass a law permitting paid menstrual leave of three to five days. “We demand that ‘period leave’ be granted to women employees in a similar pattern as the Bihar government. The Constitution of India empowers states to make special provisions for women,” said Vinod Kumar, state coordinator, NPSEFR. Bihar had introduced paid menstrual leave for two days for women employees in 1992 during the chief ministership of Lalu Prasad. In Kerala, CM Pinarayi Vijayan had on January 19 announced that the state government would provide a three-day period leave for female students..
