Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik receives Guinness Award for Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium
BHUBANESWAR: Odisha chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday received the certificate of recognition from Guinness Book of World Records for Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela for being the largest fully seated hockey stadium in the world.

The stadium was built in a record 15 months’ time and has a seating capacity of 20,011 with quality viewing experience for all.
The state-of-the-art stadium in Rourkela has been built ahead of the FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023.
Naveen received the award at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium itself during the organisation of the FIH Pro League Series.
The stadium in Rourkela is hosting the pro league matches after successfully co-hosting of the FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 in January.
“This recognition by Guinness Book of World Records is a testament that our state Odisha has come a long way and has made a mark in the international sports map,” he said.
The chief minister said that it is a matter of great pride for all and "I thank everyone who was part of this project, to the people of Sundargarh and hockey fans for their unconditional support to the sport".
“It inspired us to accomplish this Herculean task. I dedicate this recognition to the people of Odisha,” he said.
