TIRUPATI: Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur Police on Friday busted a hijack gang, involved in targeting hawala cash during transportation.
The district police arrested four accused — K Abu Nishad (40), Jackson Philip (29), Kannan Riyagu (25) and O Shameem (38) — hailing from Kerala.
Police recovered Rs 1.89 crore cash, two cars, 13 number plates and five mobile phones.
Superintendent of police Kaginelli Fakeerappa said that the district police had launched Operation Ananta in a bid to bust the Sridharan gang from Kerala, which was involved in hijacking and stealing away hawala cash.
The special operation was launched after a similar robbery was executed by the gang at Raptadu on February 23.
The district police wing formed 25 police teams with a 100-member force.
