Road accidents claim 15 lives in Bihar in 48 hours, many hurt
At least 15 people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Vaishali, Jamui, Saharsa, Purnia, Araria, Munger and Kishanganj districts in the last 48 hours.
PATNA: At least 15 people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Vaishali, Jamui, Saharsa, Purnia, Araria, Munger and Kishanganj districts in the last 48 hours.
Three youths died when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding SUV on Mahua-Desari main road under the Mahua police station area in Vaishali district on Wednesday night. The three victims were on way to the house of the in-laws of one of their friends to celebrate Holi when the incident occurred, police said.
The victims were identified as Raja Kumar (26), Pappu Ram (25) and Sumit Kumar Singh (23). SHO of Mahua police station Prabhat Ranjan reached the spot along with a police team and took possession of the bodies. The bodies were later sent to Hajipur Sadar Hospital for postmortem. Police have seized the SUV and the ill-fated motorcycle.
According to the SHO, the SUV driver was trying to run away with the vehicle after the accident. "He lost control over the vehicle and it rammed into a shop in Purani Bazaar. Hearing the noise, locals gathered at the spot. The driver, however, managed to escape, leaving the vehicle. We are trying to trace the accused driver," Ranjan said.
In another incident, a youth died and five others were injured when two motorcycles collided head-on near Farda village on Munger-Lakhisarai (NH-80) road in Munger district. The deceased was identified as Raja Kumar of Begusarai. All the injured persons were admitted to a government hospital in Munger. Meanwhile, three youths died in two incidents in Araria. In the first incident, a speeding pickup van hit a bike near Lutia bridge on Forbesganj-Raniganj main road in Haripur on Wednesday. One Ranjit Kumar (21) and his friend Deepak Kumar died on the spot.
They were on way to Raghunathpur Bhargama to distribute wedding card when the incidcent occurred.
In another incident, two youths - Amar Kumar and Sikander Kumar - died when their motorcycle was hit by a vehicle near Jogbani under the Bhawanipur police station area on Wednesday. One Amit Kumar (30), a worker of Ara Mill and resident of Begusarai district, died when a speeding truck hit his bike near Singhia Chowk in Kishanganj district on Wednesday. In another incident, a brother-sister duo died when their bike was hit by a speeding SUV near Satayan village on Jamui-Lakshisarai main road in Jamui district.
The victims were identified as Sanju Devi and her brother Sumit Kumar. Meanwhile, four people died in separate road accidents in Purnia. A speeding truck killed a biker near Agriculture College under sadar police station area.
In another incident, two people died when their bike was hit by an SUV at Teentolia. A youth died after an autorickshaw fell on him in Champavati under the Sarsi police station area. One Amit Kumar (23), who was on way to his in-laws' place to celebrate Holi, died in a road accident at Kamp village under the Saurabazaar police station area in Saharsa.
