Stock market update: FMCG stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: FMCG shares closed lower in the Thursday's session.

Nakoda Group(up 4.96%), Jyothy Labs(up 2.30%), Bajaj Consumer(up 1.24%), Parag Milk(up 0.50%), Mrs Bectors Food Specialities(up 0.32%), Umang Dairies(up 0.26%), Sheetal Cool Products(up 0.16%) and Nestle India(up 0.09%) stood among the top gainers.

Vadilal Industries(down 2.05%), Godrej Consumer Products(down 1.74%), TATA CONSUMER PRODUCTS(down 1.56%), Britannia Industries(down 1.10%), Dabur India(down 0.98%), Hindustan Unilever(down 0.95%), Dangee Dums(down 0.94%), JHS Svendgaard Laboratories(down 0.88%), Colgate Palmolive(India)(down 0.87%) and Hindustan Foods(down 0.85%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 164.8 points down at 17589.6, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 541.81 points at 59806.28.

Tata Steel(up 1.6%), Larsen & Toubro(up 1.03%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprises(up 0.96%), Bharti Airtel(up 0.89%), Axis Bank(up 0.8%), JSW Steel(up 0.71%), Cipla(up 0.51%), NTPC(up 0.34%), Hindalco Industries(up 0.27%) and Nestle India(up 0.09%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Adani Enterprises(down 4.24%), Mahindra & Mahindra(down 3.24%), SBI Life(down 2.88%), Reliance Industries(down 2.4%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(down 2.08%), Bajaj Finserv(down 2.05%), ICICI Bank(down 1.85%), Eicher Motors(down 1.8%), Maruti Suzuki(down 1.75%) and Tech Mahindra(down 1.7%) closed in the red.
