Light rain may douse heat after March 15
Panaji: People in Goa are likely to receive some respite from heat and humidity next week as the extended range forecast of India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates light rainfall over the state after March 15.
“The models are indicating that there could be normal or below normal maximum temperature in the coming two weeks,” said an IMD scientist, Rahul M. “Maximum temperature is not showing any large increase and is mostly below normal.”
Rahul added, “As per the extended range forecast of IMD, there is a possibility of light clouding and light rainfall activity in the coming week after March 15.”
IMD said the light rainfall was likely because of the formation of trough systems in peninsular India. Due to this, moisture incursion may increase over Goa thus opening the possibility of rainfall, according to early indications observed by IMD.
A heatwave alert had been issued by IMD for March 8 and 9; the conditions are not expected to persist. Maximum temperature will be higher than normal by about 4 degrees celsius up to March 10. IMD has forecast a gradual fall in maximum temperature by 2-3 degrees from March 11.
