China has recently banned girls and women from modelling undergarments online. The live-stream lingerie shopping industry in China is worth more than $700 billion but the live streams that feature female models in lingerie are often suddenly shut down and banned.

This is a result of China’s law that prohibits spreading obscene material on the internet, which was making the company lose a lot of potential customers.

This industry accounts for about 10% of the country’s e-commerce revenue, hence some companies found a loophole in this law and found new ways to work around it, which includes hiring male models to showcase women’s lingerie. The male models are seen flaunting a tight-fitting corsets, lace-trimmed nightgowns and even push-up bras.

Some videos went viral on Douyin, China’s ‘TikTok’, that showed these male models donning lingerie. The internet was floored upon seeing these videos and they quickly got over 2000 likes and a ton of comments.

Mr Xu, the owner of a live-stream lingerie business in China, introduced a male model parading a silk robe on their website. The caption of the post read, “The light and luxurious boudoir of the wife and adults”.

Social media users have applauded this witty scheme, where one user said, “Modern problems require modern solutions”. The entire social media is finding these videos hilarious, which are being re-shared tremendously.

One user commented, “The guy wears it better than the girl”. 

Speaking to a local news channel, Mr Xu stated that he doesn’t understand the fuss about the male models allegedly taking female jobs. He added they don’t really have a choice as the designs can’t be modelled by their female colleagues, so they will use male colleagues to model them.
