MYSURU: Days after city police booked a case against a pet shop owner in Agrahara accusing him of treating pet animals and birds cruelly, Priyadarshini S, an animal activist, has complained to the Mysuru City Corporation to shut down the shop accusing him of not having the licence to run the trade.
MCC health officer Dr DG Nagaraj confirmed they have received a complaint in this regard and are looking into it. The petitioner has complained to us that the pet shop owner was operating without any permission from the Karnataka State Animal Welfare Board and also did not obtain a trade licence from MCC. "I have asked the department concerned to verify and report," the health officer said.
Priyadarshini informed MCC authorities that she had asked the store owner to obtain a licence but he ignored it. Earlier, the activist had lodged a police complaint against owner Harisha with KR Police, who had taken up a case under the provisions of the IPC and Prevention of Cruelty to the Animals Act 1960.
