BELAGAVI: The Belagavi DC’s office witnessed a heart-wrenching incident on International Women’s Day. A woman attempted to commit suicide with her three daughters by consuming pesticide.
The woman is Saraswati Adrushyappa Hampannavar, 40, who resides in a rental house in the Angol area of the city. According to sources, Saraswati’s husband has been absconding for the past fortnight as he has taken huge loans frommoney lenders. After Adrushyappa left, the family struggled to feed themselves.
When no option for survival was left, Saraswati visited the DC's office on Wednesday to seek help. Saraswati took the extreme step after waiting for a long time for the DC. She reportedly mixed the pesticide in juice and gave it to her daughters – Sanvi (3), Sakshi (8) and Srusti (14) and asked them to drink.
She also consumed the same. Within a short while, the girls started feeling uncomfortable and started vomiting. DC's office staff immediately shifted them to the BIMS hospital as they suspected something was wrong. A case has been registered.
