VISAKHAPATNAM: Police in Alluri Sitarama Raju district of
Andhra Pradesh extended a helping hand to the kin of a Maoist leader by performing his mother's final rites in GK Veedhi mandal on Thursday.
The Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOB SZC) leader Kakuri Pandanna alias Jagan's mother Sitamma (82) died on Wednesday night due to health-related ailments in Kommulavada village close to Darakonda.
Jagan, the elder son of the woman, is underground for the past three decades serving different squads of Maoists in AOB.
Police of GK Veedhi mandal had provided medical help and financial support to Sitamma during their medical camp in Kommulavada village last month.
She urged her son to shun the Moist ideology and return to the village to look after her.
After learning about the death of Maoist leader's mother, Sileru police station sub-inspector Ramakrishna along with other officers attended the cremation. The cops carried the body of the elderly woman to cremation ground and also gave Rs 10,000 for cremation expenses.
