When compared to January 2022, industrial producer prices increased in the euro area and EU by 15 per cent and 16.4 per cent, respectively.
Industrial producer prices in the euro area in January 2023, compared with December 2022, decreased by 9.4 per cent in the energy sector, while prices increased by 0.8 per cent for intermediate goods and by 1.5 per cent for non-durable consumer goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 1.1 per cent, as per Eurostat.
In the EU, industrial producer prices decreased by 7.9 per cent in the energy sector, while prices increased by 0.8 per cent for intermediate goods and by 1.4 per cent for non-durable consumer goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 1.1 per cent.
The largest monthly decreases in industrial producer prices in Ireland (25.2 per cent), Sweden (8 per cent), and Latvia (5.8 per cent). The highest increases were observed in Slovakia (9 per cent), Czechia and Hungary (both 5.8 per cent), and Austria (4.9 per cent).
In terms of annual comparison, industrial producer prices in the euro area increased by 20.5 per cent in the energy sector, 15.4 per cent for non-durable consumer goods and 11.3 per cent for intermediate goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 11.1 per cent.
In the EU, industrial producer prices increased by 24.2 per cent in the energy sector, 16.4 per cent for non-durable consumer goods and 11.8 per cent for intermediate goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 11.7 per cent.
The highest annual increases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Hungary (64.6 per cent), Latvia (38.8 per cent), and Slovakia (34.5 per cent). The only decrease was observed in Ireland (7.2 per cent).
