Holi celebrated without Covid fear in Guwahati
Guwahati: With colours in the air and rain dance in Guwahati’s Fancy Bazar, Holi was celebrated in the capital city in a befitting manner by the people without any Covid-19 fear for the first time after the pandemic.
People dressed in white and donning Holi hats were seen singing songs and playing with colours in the city for the second day of the festival on Wednesday, which was declared a local holiday by the district administration here in Kamrup (Metro).
Holi is celebrated for three to five days in different parts of the state. The festival is celebrated for four days in Barpeta Satra, around 95 km west from Guwahati, with centuries old Satriya tradition established by Vaishnavite saint and socio-religious reformer Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva’s key disciple Mahapurush Madhabdev 440 years ago. The celebrations will end on Thursday at the satra.
Hundreds of people gathered at various temples to celebrate the festival. Barasha Sarma, who went to the Doul Govinda temple as well as participated in the rain dance at Fancy Bazar, said the festival not only fills the moment with colours but also makes the mind and heart colourful. “It fills your mind with colours leaving aside the pain, work-load headache and stress of life,” she added.
In the meanwhile, the city police kept a close watch on drink-driving during the Holi celebrations to reduce fatal road accidents. As per information, Guwahati recorded no fatal road accident during the celebration of the festival.
