MADIKERI: A cycle rally marked International Women's Day at the Field Marshal Cariappa Circle here on Wednesday. The rally had the slogan 'Healthy woman from a healthy India' and was organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat, health department, police department, Green City Forum, and Clean Coorg Rajaseat.
The rally was kicked off by deputy commissioner Satheesha BC who himself enjoyed cycling alongside his daughter and son. Sateesha said: "There should be equal opportunities for men and women in the society. In this regard, the government is always encouraging women to work in all fields for women empowerment."
District superintendent of police Ramarajan said that women lead two lives. "Before marriage they lead one kind of life with their parents, but after marriage they have a different life," he said. He said that women contribute more to the community than men due to this sacrifice and hard work.
District health officer Dr.
Satish Kumar called for gender equality in the society. District additional superintendent of police Sundarraj said that women are at the forefront in all fields from driving autos to becoming astronauts. Baduvanda Arun Appachhu of Clean Coorg called upon everyone to work hard to abolish the use of plastics and to have a waste-free environment.
The women police team of the district also participated in the procession in large numbers on two-wheelers. The procession began from Field Marshal Cariappa Circle and gathered at Rajaseat.
