The Android 14 Developer Preview 2 is now rolling out for compatible Pixel series phones. It offers us a glimpse at what Samsung might bring with One UI 6.0 to its phones and tablets. The Android 14 DP2 update is available widely before the beta release in April. Some of the features include the ‘Emoji Lab’ wallpaper creator, regional preferences, and fullscreen wallpaper preview.

With the ‘Emoji Lab’ wallpaper creator, you can create an emoji wallpaper. It will appear in the wallpapers list, and it lets you select among 14 emojis that you can include in the wallpaper designs, such as mosaic, lotus, stacks, sprinkle, and prism, and also tweak the colors. There is a ‘Randomize’ button for those who do not know what design they want.

Google is also introducing a ‘Regional Preference’ option that would allow the user to set their preferred temperature, units, calendar, and the first day of the week, and pick a number system for their locale. Regional Preference can be accessed on Android 14-powered devices inside Settings » System » Languages & input.

Android 14 DP2 brings camera flash to mimic notifications LED

With Android 14 Developer Preview 2, the wallpaper preview is now fullscreen by default. The ‘At a Glance’ widget is also revamped, and it appears in a single line instead of a double line. Google has changed the tap highlight in the Settings app, and now when you tap on a Settings item, it will be highlighted in a rounded-edged rectangle.

Google is also adding a new feature with Android 14 DP2 that will mimic the notification LED that has been missing on smartphones for a long time. This will be achieved by either enabling camera flash notifications and screen flash notifications, separately or simultaneously under the Accessibility menu.

The back arrow is now a pill-shaped icon with dynamic color applied to it. Navigation mode has now been moved out of the Gestures menu in Settings > System. Other important features spotted by 9To5Google include Security & Privacy header images, a monochrome theme in basic colors, new Android 14 system icons, etc.
