Shyam Nagar police soon reached the bank and checked the CCTV footage of two masked suspects.
As per the FIR, the bank's cleaning staff and a clerk opened the branch about 9.15 am. Minutes later, the two suspects entered the bank and began walking towards the restricted zone.
"The clerk confronted one of the accused. The latter dished out a pistol from his shirt and pointed it towards the employees. The accused roughed up three employees and asked them to keep mum," said an official, adding that the accused snatched the mobile phones and keys from employees before locking them in a records room.
One of the accused got agitated and asked employees about keys to the safe and vaults.
"The employees replied that they did not have any keys. One of the accused then stood guard near the bank's main gate which is adjacent to the manager's cabin. He kept an eye on customers and employees entering the branch. The accused kept locking up people entering the bank," the official added.
As per the FIR, around the same time, a senior official of the bank entered the building. They pointed a gun at him and asked him to open the vaults. They then packed cash Rs 10.73 lakh into bags.
According to the FIR, the accused then asked the bank official to keep opening other vaults. The employees told the accused that other safe boxes and vaults only had some documents and nothing valuable. Police discovered that a customer entered the bank to deposit a sum of Rs 40,000.
The accused threatened the customers and robbed the cash before holding him captive in a washroom.
The accused took the bike keys of the bank's cleaning employee and fled. The employees then alerted police about the incident.
