Nagpur: A DNA test will be conducted to identify the father of the foetus delivered on March 3 by a 15-year-old girl herself after watching YouTube videos. The mother had also strangled the foetus.
The minor, now recuperating at Mayo Hospital, had claimed an Instagram user by the name of Thakur had sexually exploited her, leading to the pregnancy. The girl, a student of Std IX, was alone at home when she delivered the baby girl. Her mother, who worked at a mall, was away at work.
The girl claimed she did not know any details about Thakur, and also claimed to have spoken to him only via voice calls on social media. Police also said the girl’s phone had been smashed by mother.
Ambazari police are now investigating the case. Cops said questioning of the minor’s friends has provided some leads, which may lead to some facts the minor is holding back. “The minor is taking name of a Thakur, who seems to be a non-existing entity. It could be someone else,” said a cop associated with the probe. “DNA tests of suspects would be conducted. No one can challenge the outcome,” said the cop.
Ambazari police have already registered an offence of rape under Indian Penal Code (IPC) and also invoked Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, against the person who impregnated the minor. The cop have also registered a case of accidental death pertaining to the death of the foetus. Police are now waiting for the post mortem report to ascertain how the baby girl died, whether it was still-born or strangled to death. “If the foetus died due to throttling, then there would be a murder case,” said a senior official.
