Haryana State Vigilance Bureau has arrested a sub-divisional engineer (SDE) and a junior engineer (JE) of the Public Health Engineering Department of Panipat while accepting a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh in lieu of clearing the bills of the complainant.
As per a bureau official, the accused have been identified as SDE Sube Singh and JE Sham Lal. They were posted in Samalkha.
Vigilance Bureau inspector Sumit Kumar said that the complainant, who is a contractor, had approached the bureau alleging that the SDE and JE were demanding a Re 2 lakh bribe to clear his pending bills.
Following this, a team raided Panchwati colony in Samalkha town of the district and caught the accused red-handed.
He said that the Rs 20,000 was recovered from the SDE while Rs 1 lakh was seized from the JE.
