MANDYA: Minister KC Narayanagowda raised eyebrows when he gave BJP’s Vijayshankalpa Yatra a miss when it toured Malavalli, Srirangapatna, Pandavapura and Mandya segments on Monday but participated when the rath yatra toured KP Pet, his constituency, in Mandya district on Tuesday.
Former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda led the yatra. Before the commencement of the yatra, the minister, who is said to be looking to move to Congress, said he was unwell and hence could not attend the yatra on Monday and Tuesday morning. He distanced himself from a protest against him by Congress workers on Monday.
Local Congress workers do not want him to contest the upcoming elections on a Congress ticket. Meanwhile, Sadananda Gowda told reporters that contrary to claims by opponents that BJP has no base in Mandya district, voters in the Vokkaliga heartland have accepted the saffron party.
“This is because the BJP government has extended many projects to the district,” he said. “The government has reopened Mysugar factory while an ethanol plant has been sanctioned in the budget. Private individuals have restarted Pandavapura Co-operative Sugar Factory. The government has increased FRP price of sugarcane from Rs 2100 per tonne to Rs 3,150 after BJP came to power.”
