Three kidnap businessman over money dispute in Chennai
Police arrested Murugaraj, 43, of Madipakkam, Ramesh of Keezhkatalai and S Jawahar, 57, of Mylapore and remanded them in jail on Tuesday
CHENNAI: The menace of abducting people over money and property dispute seems to have returned to the city after a break.
On Tuesday, three men, including a realtor, were arrested for the kidnap of a businessman. The trio detained him in a Madipakkam house, made him sign papers 'selling' his car and also forced him to transfer ₹50,000 over phone app.
Following a complaint from the victim on Monday, police arrested three people and remanded them in jail on Tuesday.
According to Madipakkam assistant commissioner Frank D Ruben, main suspect Murugaraj, 43, of Madipakkam used to entrap gullible people first by offering lons for a reasonable interest rate of 6% per annum. Later he would manipulate records and convert it into usury. He would then usurp the victim's house, property or cars.
His associates were Ramesh of Keezhkatalai and S Jawahar, 57, of Mylapore. All the three hail from a Kumbakonam.
As for the present case, police said victim Prakash had bought an apartment at Anna Nagar for ₹38 lakh through Murugaraj. He paid ₹28 lakh upfront and said would pay the rest a month after registration.
As Prakash could not pay the remaining amount within a month as promised, Jawahar went to his house on January 22, and took him to Murugaraj's office at Madipakkam.
There, the two, along with Ramesh, who is also real estate agent, locked him, attacked him and threatened him with a knife.
They took his car keys and made him sign a few documents, saying that he was selling his car to Jawahar. The trio also made him withdraw ₹50,000 using a mobile application.
Then they took Prakash in a car and let him off near Madipakkam. Based on his complaint on Monday, police arrested Murugaraj, Ramesh and Jawahar and remanded them in judicial custody on Tuesday.
