New data from ICT regulator the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has revealed that Safaricom is the leading fixed data provider.

According to this latest data, which has been compiled for Q2 for the 2022/2023 financial year, Safaricom has the highest number of subscribers, and this has been the case for the last couple of years.

Details

Fiber to the Home (FTTH) recorded the highest number of fixed broadband subscriptions, with a total of 362,248 subscriptions.

This is not surprising, as FTTH is known to provide high-speed internet access and better reliability than other internet technologies.

The next most popular internet technology is cable modem, with a total of 193,709 subscriptions.

The number of subscriptions for other technologies, such as Copper (DSL) and Fixed Wireless, is relatively low.

In terms of internet speeds, the data shows that speeds between 2 Mbps and 10 Mbps recorded the highest number of subscriptions, with a total of 476,023 subscriptions.

This is followed by speeds between 30 Mbps and 100 Mbps, with a total of 34,850 subscriptions.

It is worth noting that the number of subscriptions for speeds greater than 100 Mbps is relatively low, with only 4,329 subscriptions.

Safaricom recorded the highest market share in fixed data subscriptions at 46.1 percent, followed by Wananchi Group (Zuku) at 31.1 percent.

This suggests that these two companies are the dominant players in the fixed broadband market in Kenya.

Poa! Internet, Liquid Telecommunications Kenya, Mawingu Networks Ltd, Dimension Data Solutions East Africa Limited, and Telkom Kenya Ltd are other companies that offer fixed broadband services, but their market shares are relatively low.
