Multiple departments battling fires on Harsens Island

Six buildings on Harsens Island are confirmed to be involved in a fire Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was called in at 12:41 p.m. Multiple departments, including Clay Township Fire, Ira Township Fire, Marine City Fire, Algonac Fire, Chesterfield Fire and Richmond Fire responded to the scene.
Additionally, a few fire boats were deployed to the island, said Mark White, the deputy director of St. Clair County Homeland Security. He said they are working on getting more resources to the island as needed.
All of the buildings were waterfront property. It is unknown if any of them were occupied.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to the St. Clair County register of deeds, the property in the area affected is owned by the Old Club, which is currently closed for the season. It stretches down the southernmost end of Harsens Island along the St. Clair River and Big Muscamoot Bay.
A Clay Township police vehicle was at the Old Club entrance, 9900 S. Channel Drive, turning southbound traffic away from the area, shortly after 2 p.m.
