CHENNAI: Customs officers at Chennai airport on Tuesday foiled a bid to smuggle 6.8 kg of
gold, worth Rs.3.3 crore.
Based on intelligence, the officers intercepted two male passengers who arrived from
Singapore in Air India and Indigo flights.
On examination of their person, 68 gold bars (34 each) of 24K purity, totally weighing 6.8kg, were found concealed in their hand bags.
The passengers were arrested and gold was seized under the Customs Act 1962.
