BELAGAVI: The Belagavi DC office witnessed a heart-wrenching incident on the International Women’s Day. A woman attempted suicide along with her three girls by consuming pesticide.
Fortunately, all four are safe and out of danger, as the DC office staff shifted them to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) hospital, immediately after the woman and children started vomiting.
The woman has been identified as - Saraswati Adrushyappa Hampannavar (40), who resides in a rental house in the Angol area of the city. According to sources, Saraswati’s husband has been absconding for the past fortnight following the torture of money lenders, as he has taken huge loans from them. Absconded Adrushyappa was working in a hair cutting salon.
After Adrushyappa absconded, the family started struggling for two meals in a day. When no option of survival was left, Saraswati visited the DC office on Wednesday to seek help. After a long wait for the DC, mentally exhausted Saraswati took an extreme step.
Pretending to be juice, she gave pesticide to her girls – Sanvi (3), Sakshi (8) and Srusti (14) and asked to drink. After that, she also consumed the same.
Within a while, girls felt uncomfortable and started to vomit. The DC office staff shifted them immediately to the BIMS hospital. The case has been registered at the Market police station.
