Bribery case: VB presents chargesheet against Ludhiana RTA secretary Narinder Singh Dhaliwal

LUDHIANA: The Vigilance Bureau (Ludhiana range) on Tuesday submitted a chargesheet against the secretary, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Ludhiana, in a local court. The VB had arrested RTA secretary Narinder Singh Dhaliwal on January 6 for allegedly collecting bribes through some private persons from different transporters on a monthly basis on the pretext of not issuing challans against their vehicles. The Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officers had gone on strike after his arrest, who were later joined by revenue officers.
Senior superintendent of police (VB-Ludhiana range) Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu said the VB has sufficient evidence against the RTA secretary over his malpractices. A chargesheet has been submitted against him in the court. Further probe is on, Sandhu added.
The VB so far has nominated six persons, including two private agents Lucky and Mandeep, besides transporters , in the case. These accused are yet to be arrested.
Punjab home guard volunteer Bahadar Singh, who was attached with Dhaliwal, was produced before the court who had allegedly recorded statements in support of the allegations against the RTA secretary.
The VB has received a complaint at the chief minister's anti-corruption action line on November 18, 2022, against Dhaliwal. Satnam Singh Dhawan of Mankawal village had submitted an online complaint against the Dhaliwal on this helpline with video clips of Punjab home guard (PHG) volunteer Bahadar Singh, attached with the said RTA.
The probe established that the RTA secretary used to collect bribe on a monthly basis through some private persons from different transporters for not issuing challans. In month of December, he had received a bribe of Rs 4 lakh, out of which he used Rs 1.7 lakh for himself and remaining money (Rs 2.3 lakh) was handed over to PHG Bahadar Singh.
